Assange Reveals UK Spied on Scottish Nationalists During Independence Vote

 

‘Supporters of Scottish independence are right to think British security services spied on them during last year’s referendum, as Scotland’s sovereignty was equated to a security threat, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said Wednesday.
On September 18 2014, Scotland held a referendum on independence from the United Kingdom. Over 55 percent of the Scottish electorate rejected the motion.
“The attitude of the UK Government is that this is a national security issue, that Scottish independence is, in effect, a threat to the state,” Assange told the Herald Scotland via videolink from the Embassy of Equador in London, where he currently resides.’

Lariam: Hundreds of British soldiers suffering from mental illness after being given anti-malarial drug

 

‘The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been accused of knowingly risking the mental health of its own soldiers after new figures showed that nearly 1,000 British servicemen and women have required psychiatric treatment after taking a discredited anti-malarial drug.
Psychosis, suicidal thoughts, depression and hallucinations are among the mental-health problems associated with Lariam, also known as mefloquine.
But the MoD has rejected all appeals to stop giving the drug to troops posted overseas – to the mounting fury of relatives, politicians and retired military figures who fear it could be responsible for an epidemic of psychiatric illness in Britain’s Armed Forces.’

Child abuse case dropped against Labour peer for second time

 

‘Lord Greville Janner of Braunstone, QC, will escape charges for the second time over alleged historic child sex crimes, as Alison Saunders, the director of public prosecutions, will announce on Thursday that it is not in the public interest to put him on trial.
Crown Prosecution Service lawyers have spent nine months studying evidence gathered by Leicestershire police’s Operation Enamel and detectives have interviewed more than 20 men who claim they were abused by Lord Janner in their youth.
On Wednesday night police officers visited the alleged victims to inform them of the decision not to proceed to trial, The Times reported.
Lord Janner, 86, the former MP for Leicester West, denied the allegations against him when they first surfaced two decades ago.’
