Tar Sands Victory Threatens to Flood Europe with World’s Dirtiest Fuel

‘The European Commission on Tuesday unveiled proposed legislation to toss out a requirement to label tar sands oil as dirtier than other fossil fuels—a move that is likely to bolster Canada’s bitumen industry as it jockeys to break into European markets.
Five years ago the Commission agreed to a piece of climate legislation called the ‘Fuel Quality Directive,’ which was to be implemented in 2010 with the aim of cutting transport fuel emissions by 6 percent by the year 2020. The Commission previously proposed under this directive to require that that tar sands be reported as a greater carbon emitter than conventional crude, which could have led to a penalty on bitumen, most of which comes from Canada.’

Liz Lynne, who succeeded Smith as MP for Rochdale, allegedly ordered her PA to destroy several pages of notes containing a stream of allegations against the paedophile.
They detailed a litany of abuse at the Knowl View children’s home in Rochdale, which closed in the mid-1990s.
The PA, Deborah Doyle, said she had taken the notes during a 1996 telephone conversation with a former manager of the home, Martin Digan.’

Louisiana Parish Claims Incarcerated 14-Year-Old Consented to be Raped by a Corrections Officer

‘A Louisiana parish is arguing that it should not be held liable for the rape of a 14-year-old girl in a juvenile detention center because the victim “consented” to be sexually assaulted by a 40-year-old corrections officer at the facility.
The victim, now 20, filed a civil lawsuit against her assailant, former guard Angelo Vickers, as well as Terrebonne Parish.
The age of consent in Louisiana is 17, but court documents allege that “Vickers could not have engaged in sexual relations within the walls of the detention center with [the victim] without cooperation from her. Vickers did not use force, violence or intimidation when engaging in sexual relations.”’

Mexico mass grave discovered after student protesters go missing

‘A mass grave has been found on the outskirts of Iguala, in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, where 43 students went missing on September 27 following a protest to support the rights of rural teachers.
Authorities are conducting forensic examinations of “up to 20” charred remains discovered on Saturday in an effort to determine if they are the remains of the students, Guerrero Attorney General Inaky Blanco told reporters in Iguala on Saturday.’

James Winslade was forced out of his farm in Bridgwater, Somerset and had to shift 550 cattle to safe havens after floodwater reached 12ft deep in some places.
The cattle farmer was entitled to government funding to reseed his fields, but officials told him he would need to provide evidence of the damage.’

700,000 pupils to be given flu spray: Children are virus superspreaders, say officials

‘Pupils will be vaccinated with a nasal spray this winter in a bid to stop the spread of flu.
Some 700,000 children in England aged five to 17 will be offered the treatment in what will be the biggest school immunisation pilot for 30 years.
Last year, the spray – called Fluenz – was offered to all children aged two and three but this year it will also be pitched to parents of all four-year-olds.
And Public Health England (PHE) will trial the larger programme in primary and secondary schools to immunise pupils.’
